Three reasons why you shouldn’t eat your dinner in front of the television when you’re on a health kick

It’s not uncommon for people to fall into the habit of eating their dinner in front of the television. In fact, there are many who choose to chow down in front of the box even when they’ve got the use of a perfectly good dining room table. If you fall into this category, you should know that it’s wise to avoid eating with your eyes on the television – especially when you’re on a health kick. If you’ve got your fitness levels on your mind, here are three reasons why you should switch off your favourite shows and eat your food away from the television.

The best way to shape up is by fitting in numerous workouts during the week. Unfortunately, people often struggle to fit these exercises into their daily routine. This problem only worsens when you sit yourself down in front of the television because you can get sucked into a programme that absorbs your precious time – time, it should be said, which could be better spent exercising.

You should ideally go round your body’s needs during a health kick. This can mean eating at certain times of the day – which will be determined by what you hope to achieve. This notion goes out of the window when you time your meals round a television schedule, meaning you could end up eating (or not eating) when your body is telling you otherwise.

A great way to keep a positive attitude towards your exercise and health regime is to avoid increasing your stress levels. While you might think that relaxing in front of the box is actually helping you unwind and chill out, it’s actually better for your frame of mind to avoid content that can make you anxious or troubled. In addition, if you eat round the table you’re more likely to indulge in human interaction – something else that’s been proven to raise a person’s spirits during a health kick.

    Give it a go!

It’s time to pick up the remote, press the ‘off’ button and try eating your dinner away from the television. As well as helping you achieve your fitness goals, this technique will also save you money because you’ll be using less electricity.
