It’s on everyone’s bucket list right? To travel the world and explore all the things you’ve seen on Instagram and in the movies. We all usually have the same constraint when it comes to achieving this dream – money. However, this doesn’t mean it isn’t possible, so we’ve compiled some top tips on saving money to travel the world.
1. Evaluate and reconsider your expenses
First things first, sit down, take a notebook and pen and jot down everything you currently spend money on. Highlight what is vital to your well-being and what is not – for instance, perhaps you don’t need a latte from the local coffee shop every day, or you could save on your electricity bills by simply switching off the lights when you leave a room, or do you really need that Sky Movie package? Be brutal, if you can survive without it when travelling the world, then you can survive without it now to save money.
2. Dine in more often
If you don’t know how to cook then it’s time to learn. Thanks to Facebook pages such as Tasty, it’s never been easier to visually have a recipe and attempt to cook it. We aren’t saying you should give up dining out completely, but when you do decide to treat yourself make sure you search coupon sites to find discount meal deals – this way you aren’t taking a massive chunk of your savings. It’s also a good idea to start bringing a packed lunch into work. Try salads, wholefoods, quirky sandwiches and more. It’s cheaper to make an avocado sandwich at home than it is to buy one from the shop.
3. Forget about brand names
When you are choosing washing up liquid or toilet cleaner, you’ll find that the top brands you see on TV ads are usually twice the price of the local shop brand. You are literally paying for the name, so just give the own brand stuff a chance and you’ll be surprised at just how good they do the same job, but for less.
